Reasonable and customary (R&C) limit for hearing aids
To ensure members are not overcharged, every year GreenShield sets a reasonable and customary (R&C) limit for the cost of a visit for hearing aids. Every time you purchase hearing aids, the R&C limit is applied.
However…
Some providers charge more than the R&C limit.
And…
The R&C limit is the maximum amount your plan will cover for hearing aids.
That means…
If your provider charges more than the R&C limit, you will have to pay the remaining amount out of your own pocket.
You can check your eligibility and coverage limits by logging in to your account at greenshield.ca, emailing GreenShield at customer.service@greenshield.ca or by calling GreenShield at 1-877-266-5494 to use their interactive voice system. You will then see if your estimated payments are fully covered or not.
For Example:
Victor’s new digital hearing aids cost $4,000. The R&C limit at the time was $3,800, which is the maximum amount your plan will cover.
Your coverage maximum will reset 36 months from when you first purchased your prescribed hearing aids.
If you reach the hearing aids plan maximum within 36 months of receiving your hearing aids, the amount will again be available to you once 36 months has passed.
For Example:
Harry was prescribed digital hearing aids. He purchased them on February 12, 2023, and at the time, the R&C limit was $3,800. Harry then wanted to get another pair in April of 2025. He submitted this claim for his digital hearing aids on February 12, 2023:
Harry reached the hearing aids maximum after getting his hearing aids on February 12, 2023. He then had two choices:
- Get the additional hearing aids in April of 2025 and pay out of pocket; OR
- Wait until his coverage maximum refreshes on February 13, 2026, to get new hearing aids.
