Starting January 1, 2027, the long-term care benefit will be available to members with dementia who are living in a private retirement residence while waiting for long-term care placement.

It is important to choose a long-term care facility that you can comfortably call “home”. Prepare a list of things that are important to you, such as medical needs, social programs, and a location that you prefer.
Look for places that are a good fit based on what’s on your list and arrange for in-person visits. You could schedule a tour or see if you can visit at mealtime or participate in an activity.
It can be a long wait for a spot in a long-term care facility. Apply to be put on a waitlist for a home or homes that you feel good about sooner rather than later.
