Being a smart shopper when it comes to your prescription drugs, dental, and other health services can help the plan remain strong. Every dollar saved is a dollar that can be put toward enhanced benefits for you, or for another member.
Review these tips to learn some ways you can shop smart to save the plan some money. Let’s all do our part!
Be mindful of dispensing fees
What is a dispensing fee?
It’s a fee charged by the pharmacy for dispensing your prescription drugs to you. It is separate from the cost of the medication itself. A dispensing fee covers the time spent by the pharmacist to review your medication, fill the script, check for possible interactions, and potentially have a counselling session with you at the counter.
Different pharmacies have different dispensing fees
The asrTrust plan will cover the full cost of your dispensing fee. But keep in mind – you may be able to get the same service from another pharmacy at a lower cost.
Searching for and using a lower-cost pharmacy means more money can stay in the asrTrust fund to pay for benefits for you, and for other members.
Get a longer supply of medications you take regularly
Your plan covers up to a 100-day supply. That means, if you take certain prescription drugs regularly, you can let your pharmacist know to provide a longer supply of them. It will lower the total dispensing fees that are paid by the plan!
Going on vacation for an extended time? Your plan will extend your prescription drug coverage so you can get up to a 183-day supply.
Trying a new medication? Your plan will cover up to a 30-day supply the first time you get it. This way, if the medication doesn’t work for you when you first try it, you won’t have too much left over.
